Should your child have Summer Tutoring Sessions or a complete break?

It is that time of year when thoughts turn to the summer break and whilst the temptation is to give your child the whole summer off school work it’s also very important to find ways to keep working on those skills over the summer. The long vacation doesn’t simply hit the “pause” button on reading, maths and writing skills. It can actually erode these skills. When it comes to certain kinds of knowledge, children really do have to “use it or lose it.” This is especially true for kids with SEN and EAL but also especially for children taking exams in the next academic year. It is therefore essential to strike a balance between reinforcing academic skills and having lots of summer fun.
This summer we are running fun maths and English sessions for all ages as well as 10+/11+ Masterclasses. We also offer Back To School Sessions at the end of August to get them ready for the next academic year!

If your child is taking an exam in the next academic year then they should do some work in the summer holidays as well as having a complete break like parents. You should give them a clear two weeks off but book sessions in the other weeks. 1:1 sessions could be mixed up with group sessions for variety.
